So I've picked up another job it seems this week. It's not a job that I'm going to flail around for (retail) but, it's a good place to hone my public relations skills and work on my turns of phrase. Being a public figure is just as important as knowing your stuff in the makeup world. I'm learning that very quickly.
Some of the things I've learned so far:
- You won't get a good response from someone if you use 'yes' or 'no' questions such as "Are you finding everything okay today?" It's better to start out with "How are you doing today?" or lead with a comment on what they're looking at "That product is great, have you used it?" this will encourage people to say 'yes' or 'no' but they're more likely to follow up with more information.
- Just because someone is young or old always ask. I've made sales to a kid as young as 9 because her mom was letting her shop for herself.
That's it so far! So, what I'd like to know is: What advice do you have for me? How can I better connect to the public and put on the charms and charisma that I need to succeed?
